English Idiom: Lit up like a Christmas tree
It is December 22nd, and I can guarantee you that many little girls and boys, and big girls and boys, for that matter, are anxiously awaiting Santa’s arrival.
There have been many office or company Christmas parties for the big boys and girls, and I’m sure a few of you have seen your coworkers lit up like a Christmas tree at the after-party.
What does that mean?
Well, if we describe someone as lit up like a Christmas tree, they are drunk.
Perhaps they have made rather merry at the Christmas party, the after-party, or both.
If someone is very drunk, you could say they are lit up like a Christmas tree with the lights turned on.
This expression can be used any time of the year, but it is especially useful during the holidays.
