English Expression: Like turkeys voting for (an early) Christmas
Millions of people all over the world have just celebrated Christmas.
I was thinking about an appropriate expression to introduce today, and I thought of something like turkeys voting for an early Christmas.
This phrase describes people who are accepting a situation that is not beneficial to them.
The idea is that Christmas is not a good time to be a turkey.
The world’s population of turkeys drops dramatically just before Christmas; therefore, why would turkeys vote for an early Christmas? It doesn’t make sense; there is no benefit in it for them.
Now, imagine a company asking their employees to vote for a reduction in their salary. It would be like turkeys voting for an early Christmas, where is the benefit?
