English Phrase: Leave someone be
Here we are back to our first idiom after hump day.
We have a phrase today: leave someone be.
If we leave someone be, we do not bother them and let them continue their actions.
Imagine you have a young child.
Suddenly, you realize that your young child is very quiet.
It’s very unusual for a young child to be quiet, and when they are quiet, it generally means they are naughty.
They’re often eating dirt, setting fire to the sofa or using their mother’s lipstick to create ‘works of art’ on the walls.
Anyway, you sneak to the door of her bedroom, and there is your young child, your little angel, fast asleep on the floor of her room, surrounded by her toys.
You have a peaceful moment!!
What do you do?
Do you wake her up?
Absolutely not!
Do you sit there and watch her?
Absolutely not!
If you do that, there’s a danger of waking her up by accident.
So, what do you do?
You leave her be and enjoy your peaceful moment because, as a parent, you know it may be 20 years before you have another quiet moment!
There you go, that is the meaning of leave someone be.
