Knock yourself out

Knock yourself out means to feel free to do whatever it is you want to do for as long as you want to do it.
Go ahead, knock yourself out, dream all you want about the dog days of summer. It may help you get through the next 4-5 months of cold weather.

English Idiom: Knock yourself out

December is just around the corner. If you are in the Boston area or Japan, you have been enjoying some unseasonably warm weather this week and been dreaming of a mild winter. Go ahead, knock yourself out.

Keep on dreaming, because that is what you are doing – dreaming.

Everyone knows that winter will bring cold temperatures and, unfortunately, snow.

But, as I said, knock yourself out dreaming about warmer weather, palm trees and beach sand between your toes.

Feel free to daydream about the dog days of summer.

If you’re lucky, you will be able to keep the dream alive for, oh, five months or so.

Knock yourself out means to feel free to do whatever it is you want to do for as long as you want to do it.
