Idiom: In your bones

Can you feel it?

I can.

I can feel it in my bones.

Something big is coming.

I can feel it in my bones that something even bigger than COVID is coming down the pike – something we must prepare for.

Feeling something in your bones is an idiomatic expression that refers to a profound sense of knowing or intuition that is so strong and undeniable that it feels rooted in your very bones.

It’s a feeling that is difficult to put into words, but it’s something you know in your core.

In conversation, people use in your bones to show they have a firm conviction about something.

For instance, in business, an entrepreneur might say they have a hunch about a potential business partner that they can’t ignore.

They might say, “I feel it in my bones that this partnership will be successful.”

People often say that they can feel a storm coming in their bones.

Sometimes, the body can sense atmospheric pressure or humidity changes before they are visible.

People who have arthritis or chronic pain might also use this expression to describe the way that their joints ache before a storm.

In times of war, people might say that they can feel it in their bones that something is about to happen.

This expression describes a sense of impending danger or uncertainty that is difficult to articulate but impossible to ignore.

Soldiers might use this expression to explain how their instincts tell them they must be on high alert.

So, the next time you feel something in your bones, have the courage of your convictions, trust your instincts and go with your gut
