Phrase: In its own right

People and things in this life should be judged in their own right, not because of who their parents are, where they work or to what they have connections.

The phrase in your own right means to be recognized for your unique or special qualities, not because you have certain connections.

I have just sat down to write a bunch of posts, but before I do, the first thing I did was go to Spotify and put on the Mick Jagger album Wandering Spirit.

When famous band members go solo, they are trying to prove that they can be recognized in their own right.

I suppose they want to show the world that they can be recognized in their own right for their own individual talent and not just as one of a group.

This has got me thinking about Jagger’s children.

He has eight children with five different women.

Can you imagine being Mick Jagger’s child?

I think that would be a heavy burden to carry because people would constantly be expecting you to be able to sing or at least strut your stuff.

Jagger has an aura about him because he is one of the granddads of rock and roll.

I mean, he is the frontman of the world’s most famous rock and roll band.

It must be hard for his children and grandchildren to be accepted and respected in their own rights for their talents.

Sure, the Jagger name must open doors and create opportunities, but that can only carry you so far before you need to be accepted in your own right.
