In and of itself

In and of itself means that something is considered all by itself separate from other facts. Money in and of itself doesn't make you happy.
Many things can make us happy. Money cannot make us happy. Only the things that money can buy can make us happy, not money itself.

English Phrase: In and of itself

We are all working for the almighty dollar, yen, baht, ringgit, or whatever currency people use in your country.

The thing is that with money we can buy things to make us happy, but money in and of itself does not buy happiness.

Although you may agree with this statement, you may not understand what the phrase in and of itself means.

Well, it means that something is considered all by itself separate from other facts.

Money alone does not buy happiness.

You can have a lot of money and not be happy.

Money only makes you happy when you spend it to get other things.

Therefore, money in and of itself (having only money) does not make you happy.
