Phrase: In a heartbeat

Estimated reading time: 2 minutes

It can take a lifetime to build something up, and then just like that, it’s gone in a heartbeat.

How many people in Japan have had their homes destroyed by earthquakes, tsunamis, flooding or landslides?

The number must be in the tens of thousands, if not the hundreds of thousands.

One day your house is there, and everything is fine.

Then the next day, it’s gone in a heartbeat, which means instantly or immediately.

Life is like that. It can turn on a dime.

Unfortunately, it seems that most bad things happen in a heartbeat.

Sure, winning the lottery can change a person’s life in a heartbeat, but how many people will the lottery?

Not many; that’s why it’s a lottery.

Yes, it may seem that some people have become an overnight success, but in reality, it only happens after many long years of hard work in the shadows.

Good things don’t often occur in a heartbeat.

Keep that in mind.
