Expression: How we roll

Sometimes, things are tough, but others seem to have no trouble accomplishing them. When this happens, we can say, ‘That’s how we roll. ‘

There are various situations where we can use this phrase.

Book reading competitions are a perfect example.

I was never one for sports, and I never liked to be in a group – I’m more of a loner.

Don’t make a mistake and think I’m the strong, silent type.

One of the attributes of an English language teacher is that they should be able to speak, and believe me, I’m good at that.

In my elementary school days, we had a book reading competition every year.

Students had to read a book, write a report, and make a presentation in front of the class.

If you remember, I once said that my home was a veritable library, and I read most of the books in my house.

Now you know why.

Bookworms like me can read dozens of books a year.

Why? Well, that’s how we roll!

While other kids found it difficult to sit and concentrate for long periods, I didn’t have that problem.


You see, how we roll is used in situations where we can do something and make it look easy.

We can say that we have an aptitude for whatever we’re doing.


Some people are good at learning languages.

Others are very good at repairing electronics, and others are good at other things.

They have one thing in common: they are good at what they do and make it seem simple.

That’s how they roll.

It’s a pretty cool expression to use.

Anybody can use it when talking about something they’re good at.

If you are good at cooking, the next time someone asks how you made something, just say, ‘That’s how I roll, baby!’
