WotD: Happy camper

There are many reasons not to smile and even more not to be a happy camper

The thing I’ve discovered about being unhappy is that it requires more energy than it does to be happy.

That’s why I try to have a positive attitude about most things, even those with which it’s hard to be pleased.

So, what, you may be wondering, is a happy camper?

It’s a person who is satisfied with the way things are.

When someone doesn’t like the situation they’re in, they’re not a happy camper

In your daily life, if you hear a baby crying at the supermarket, your next-door neighbours having an argument or car horns blaring in traffic, you can be sure someone is not a happy camper

However, the sound of children’s laughter at a playground, next-door neighbours laughing at a comedy on TV or people having a beer while enjoying a BBQ at the local river are sure signs of happy campers around.

From my childhood experiences, going off for a weekend in the woods or at a local campsite could be hit-or-miss

Sleeping in a tent, trailer, or motorhome can be a fantastic experience if the weather cooperates.

I remember when my extended family would all go off and park in a gravel pit on the side of the highway for a weekend.

The parents would drink and play cribbage while we kids did whatever we wanted as long as we stayed off the highway.

We were all happy campers then as long as the weather was sunny.

Once it rained, though, as it often did, things changed quickly.

There’s nothing as miserable as spending a weekend in a cramped space with a bunch of kids and parents who’d rather be somewhere else.
