We talk about the going rate of things quite often.

In Japan these days, many people are amazed and even angry at the going rate of vegetables such as Chinese cabbage, white radish, onions, carrots, etc., due to the four typhoons that hit northern Japan this year.

Many people in Japan are suffering from sticker shock!

The going rate for these vegetables seems to be one, two or even three times the regular price.


Yes, that’s it; the going rate of something is the price of that thing at this moment.


Of course, prices can change.

The cost can go up or down depending on supply, demand and other factors such as typhoons.
