English Expression: Go the way of the Dodo

If you hear that something has gone the way of the dodo, it is not being used anymore, and something newer and better has probably replaced it.

No more dodos are left on this earth; They’re all dead or, more specifically, extinct.

Sailors hunted them to extinction because they were seen as a fantastic source of protein and were very easy to catch and kill.

Remember the Concord jet? No?

Well, that’s because the Concord jet has already been retired.

The main problems with the Concord jet were that it was very noisy and burned a lot of fuel.

Eventually, flying became unprofitable, so it went the way of the dodo and was replaced by more contemporary jets.
