Give (someone) the flick

To give someone the flick means to reject them casually. Flick means throw. When you give someone the flick you don't want to be with them.
Ah, rejection. It’s not always as bad as it seems. Everything happens for a reason; we just don’t know it at the time.

English Phrase: Give someone the flick

Have you ever had to give someone the flick?

Now, before you ask what ‘the flick’ is, let me explain.

It means to reject them.

If you have ever had a boyfriend or girlfriend break up with you, you have felt rejected.

To be more precise, it means to reject them casually.

These days, smartphones are ubiquitous.

Almost everyone has one, and most people had no qualms about giving their old clamshell phones the flick.

And that, sadly, is often the way it goes – old things are rejected in favour of something new.

Just remember that if your boyfriend does give you the flick and breaks your heart, you don’t need him anyway, and you know what?

You can do better.
