English Expression: Get a lot of Press
Those who read my posts often and are eagle-eyed noticed that on Friday, I wrote, ‘…Both Donald Trump and Pokémon Go have been getting a lot of press coverage recently.’
I slipped in this little expression there while explaining another expression, namely, fever pitch.
If someone, something, or some topic gets a lot of press, it is heavily discussed in the media.
The word ‘press’ refers to news media such as newspapers, magazines, TV, radio and online sites.
Therefore, if someone/something gets a lot of press, they will often appear in the news.
It could be either positive or negative.
You could clarify your meaning by saying, ‘David is getting a lot of good press‘ or ‘David is getting a lot of bad press.’
Now, some people would say there is no such thing as bad press, but I will leave it up to you to decide that.
