Idiom: Step out (on someone)

Let’s hope you never have to use this one.

Step out on someone means being unfaithful and fooling around with someone other than your romantic partner.

If a woman sees lipstick on her lover’s collar, the first logical conclusion she will come to is that her lover has been stepping out on her.

Now, of course, she will be upset, but she will probably be even more upset if the betrayal had never been on her radar to start.

I find it difficult to see how she could think otherwise.

Whether you feel stepping out is serious or not is up to you.

Some couples have what is called an ‘open relationship’ in which they are free to fool around with other people.

I won’t get into that here, but it does exist.

No matter what type of relationship you’re involved in, I hope you never have your heart broken by someone stepping out on you.
