Word of the Day: End up

Estimated reading time: 3 minutes

Have you ever tried to figure out how you ended up where you are right now?

I have.

Let me relate to you how it happened.

The other morning, my dog woke me up just after 4:00 am because she wanted to pee.

When she does this, she sits directly in front of my face and stares at me.

You can sense when someone is staring at you, so eventually, I open my eyes, and then she begins to turn around in circles to show happiness.

As I was saying, the other day, I opened my eyes just after 4:00 am, and the first thing I saw was my dog’s private parts a few centimetres away from my face.

NOT A PRETTY PICTURE.

That got my brain asking the question, “How in the name of God did I end up here?”

I’m a country boy from a small town in northeastern Canada.

The life I have lived so far is nothing like the one I imagined I’d have.

It’s about time I explain to you what end up means.

It means arriving or finding yourself in a location, situation or condition that you never planned for or expected.

There I was in a small Japanese town, with a beautiful woman sleeping next to me, hearing the Japanese bush warblers singing, opening my eyes for the first time that day and seeing a dog’s genitals.

What? The beautiful woman?

Every married man wakes up next to a beautiful woman.

If he doesn’t, he has no business being married.

There you have it, as I woke up on that day, I wondered, “How in the name of God did I end up here?”

The answer?

I’ve narrowed it down to either fate or destiny.

I’m still not sure which one it is.
