Word of the Day: Drive

Why is it that some people succeed when others do not?

Ask a million people this question, and you will receive a million excellent answers.

For my purposes today, though, the answer I am looking for is “…because they have drive.”

Some people are incredibly resilient.

They get knocked down seven times, and they get back up eight times.

Others are called go-getters: they see what they want, and they go get it.

The thing is, go-getters and those with resilience cannot do anything without drive.

They must have the energy and determination to achieve what they want.

At its most basic, drive is what makes you get out of bed in the morning.

At its most excessive, drive is what makes you get out of bed when it’s -35℃, your wife wants to cuddle, and you really don’t need to go in to work today.

It’s the reason you believe in yourself and your abilities when no one else does, and they tell you the cards are stacked against you.

Successful entrepreneurs such as Richard Branson, Jeff Bezos, and Oprah Winfrey are all driven.

If you look around you, you will see thousands of people who have drive.

Some are restaurant owners.

Others have beaten cancer.

Still, more have raised large families.

Although we all have drive to some degree, I don’t think it’s something we can acquire ourselves; we’re either born with it or we are not.

It’s why there are quitters and achievers.

They say when the going gets tough, the tough get going.

The tough are the ones who have more drive than everyone else.
