Phrase: Dog eat dog

They say the road to success is always under construction.

What they don’t tell you is that it is dog-eat-dog out there, and the road to success is the same one that leads to ruin.

The phrase dog eat dog refers to the ruthless competition among people in which they are willing to walk over others to get ahead.

It is a metaphor for how hard life can be and how much competition there is in the world, where it’s every wo/man for themselves, and you have to look out for number one because if you don’t look out for yourself, no one else will.

While competing and striving for success, it’s vital to ensure you don’t lose yourself in the process.

Maintain respect and integrity for others while trying to get ahead.

Yes, the phrase dog eat dog implies that if you don’t take care of yourself, you will be eaten alive and spit out by those who are more ruthless in their self-interest.

Competition is good as long as it brings out the best in us.

The world may be dog-eat-dog, but that doesn’t mean we have to treat each other like animals.

So, compete to the best of your ability but keep in mind what matters most of all – the people you pass on the way up are the same ones you will have to pass on the way down.

We are not animals.

Take time to make friends, and you’ll have someone to smell the roses with along the way.
