Phrase: Creature of habit

Humans are creatures of habit.

It’s one of the main ways we cope with a constantly changing world.

Everyone has little sayings or turns of phrases that they often repeat.

Creature of habit is one of mine.

A creature of habit is someone who always does the same thing in the same way.

You are a creature of habit.

If you don’t believe me, let me prove it to you.

If you take the train to work, you probably take it at the same time every day.

Not only do you take it at the same time, but you most likely board the same train car each day.

If you take the train at the same time and board the same car through the same door each day, you probably also sit in the same seat or as near it as possible.

That’s a bit scary.

When you return to work tomorrow, look around and do that for three days.

You’ll see that everyone is a creature of habit because you will quickly notice that the same people are with you on that train every day.

Humans are creatures of habit.

It’s how we exercise control over the world.

We can’t control the world, but we can create habits to control ourselves and controlling ourselves gives us the feeling of controlling the world.

The next time you want to set yourself a new goal, remember you are a creature of habit.

To achieve that goal, build a daily habit of working towards that goal.

See you tomorrow.
