WotD: Bring (something) on

Here we are again!

It’s Monday!

Once a week, I feel blue, and Mondays always bring on this blueness.

They always bring on this case of Mondayitis.

Yes, Monday is the last day of the working week for me, and I am grateful for that, but Monday is also the week’s busiest day.

It’s the day I have to tie up all the loose ends so that I can enjoy my time off in peace.

Don’t worry.

I don’t stay blue very long.

It only lasts for one day, because it’s only brought on by Mondays.

And that is our word for today – bring something on.

It means to make something happen, usually something bad, but it can refer to good things happening as well.

Often, there is a trigger that will bring something on.

In my case, it’s Mondays.

It may be a song on the radio, a particular smell, or a time of year for other people.

Whatever that trigger is for an individual, it will bring on something unpleasant.

They may remember breaking up with a former lover, a traffic accident or some other tragic event in their lives.

I used to work in a school for children with special needs.

There was one young child there for who being touched, either accidentally or intentionally, would bring on an episode.

They would scream, yell and become violent all because they had been touched.

For them, touch was their trigger, and it would bring on a violent episode.

The next time you have a headache or slight depression, think about what trigger brought it on for you.
