Word of the Day: Blemish
A blemish is a small mark such as a flaw or defect on something that ruins its appearance. Sometimes it’s called an imperfection.
The pumpkin in the picture has a blemish, probably caused by sitting on the ground.
If you go to a grocery store to purchase your vegetables, you will notice that most of the veggies are almost perfect in appearance.
However, if you go to a farmers’ market, many of the veggies will have little defects like today’s pumpkin.
These little marks and flaws are purely cosmetic and do not affect the taste at all.
Sometimes we can buy electronics or furniture at a discount because there’s a small scratch or blemish on it.
When I need to make a purchase, I always check the ‘scratch and dent’ section of the store. Small imperfections add character to an item, and the lower price doesn’t hurt either.
As they say, one man’s trash is another man’s treasure.
I think the blemishes give them a little personality and make them stand out.
But I’m a little unique.
