WotD: Badge of pride
I had my birthday in the middle of November.
I’m 49.
Wow! I’m 49, but you know what?
I don’t feel 49, and my wife tells me I don’t act my age.
When I look in the mirror, there are new lines on my face that weren’t there before, and my beard is going grey.
You know what?
Age is not just a number, it’s a badge of pride.
A badge of pride is a mark or something you wear as an expression of pride in who you are, where you belong or what you have accomplished.
Those lines and grey hairs mark how hard I have worked and how much life I have lived.
The same goes for you too.
It’s true that some of us age like fine wine while others age like milk, but who cares?
We’re still living, breathing and battling, which is an excellent measure of who we are.
We are survivors!
I have been teaching English for about 25 years now.
Throughout that time, I’ve met thousands of people.
Some wore their battle scars as a badge of pride, while others tried to hide them.
One of the things I’ve discovered and learned to accept about people is that everyone has had an interesting life and has a fantastic story to tell – if you are willing to let them tell it.
Whether our scars are physical, mental or psychological, we should wear them as a badge of pride because we are still here.
We are the survivors.
And you know what, some younger people think I’m just an old fart, but I know more than they do because I’m 49.
