Phrase: As all that

You may look at this picture and think it resembles a scary scene from a suspense movie.

It’s not as frightening as all that.

Perhaps you think the thick fog has a romantic feel.

It’s not as romantic as you may think.

Maybe you think that the weather looks cold and damp.

There, you may be right.

It may be as cold and damp as all that, or at least I think so.

Today, I’m introducing the phrase as all that.


It means as you might expect or hope.


It can be used in many situations.

One day, you may meet a wonderful person and think they are just the sweetest person you have ever met.

Then you realize that they are not as wonderful as all that and that they really are a wolf in sheep’s clothing.


This post is simple and easy to read, likely to be understood by an average 5th-grader (age 10).  

On the Flesch-Kincaid reading-ease test, this post scores 91.
