WotD: All-out war

This is serious, everyone!

It is time for all of us to declare an all-out war on this coronavirus.

Let’s do this thing.

What I mean by all-out war is that we must use every weapon in our arsenal to flatten the curve, slow down the rate of infection and hang on.

All-out war means you use every weapon you have in every way you can imagine to achieve victory.

It may be a real war or any fight.

We need to hang on long enough to give our doctors, nurses, scientists, researchers, lab technicians and all other health workers time to find, test and then create the magic bullet that will stop this virus once and for all.

As an online English teacher, of course, there is very little I can do directly.

However, wars are fought by those on the front lines, but wars are won by those behind the scenes, the unsung heroes, who do everything they can to support the people in harm’s way.

This time you and I – WE – are the ones behind the scenes.

WE are the ones who have to make sacrifices to help the all-out war effort.

What does that mean?

Well, as the Prime Minister of Canada so succinctly put it, “Go home and stay home!”

That’s how we fight this.

It’s incredibly challenging to put our daily lives on hold.

In Tokyo, the mayor has asked everyone to travel as little as possible this weekend.

If we don’t… think Italy, think Milan, think London, think New York, think San Francisco, think Wuhan.

Hanshi Tigers pitcher Shintaro Fujinami has tested positive for COVID-19.

Ken Shimura is, at this moment, fighting for his life in a hospital.

As you read this, hundreds of thousands of people around the world are suffering.

The only way to fight this is through an all-out war, and that means staying at home and not mixing with people.

In battle, heroes make sacrifices.

If WE choose not to sacrifice, then WE decide to give up without a fight or be the cause of someone else’s death.

Declare all-out war on the coronavirus – stay home.

Please.
