Phrase: After your own heart
We all seek out and enjoy being around people after our own hearts.
If someone is after your own heart, they are a like-minded person who is similar to yourself in their thoughts and ways of doing things.
We experience a sense of peace of mind when we are around people who think and act similarly to us.
Yes, there’s the proverb opposites attract, but if you spend too much time around people who are different than yourself, you’ll discover that you’re incompatible and part ways.
There’s a novelty in being around people who are different than us.
We find exposure to new ways of thinking and doing things refreshing and stimulating for a time.
At a certain point, though, it becomes too much.
Being around someone who is after our own heart is like being surrounded by a warm blanket.
It’s cozy, comfortable, and puts us at ease.
When people are looking for Mr. or Mrs. Right, they’re looking for a kindred spirit who is after their own heart but just different enough to remain attractive without becoming too much of a burden on our ability to cope with difference.
Too much sameness quickly becomes a bore.
Too much uniqueness is hard to deal with and quickly becomes a chore.
This is true for most things.
Whether you’re looking for a life partner, a new job or a gym to work out at, you’re looking for a place where you can fit in and join like-minded people and share a common goal, no matter what that goal is.
When you find it, you know it’s the one because it feels comfortable; the person or people are after your own heart.
It’s one of the main struggles of life.
Yes, we’re all trying to survive the daily grind, but we’d prefer to do it with someone after our own heart.
We know that person when we find them because everything clicks and feels right.
