English Phrase: A pretty penny
When we describe something as costing a pretty penny, we mean it must have been expensive.
The above sports car is definitely on the high end of the cost scale.
If you’ve managed to put away quite a bit of cash, you may be able to afford it, but that doesn’t mean you won’t think it’s expensive.
Just be sure to remember that the understanding of what is expensive is relative to how much money you have.
If you have a lot of money, then your idea of being expensive will be different from a person with little money.
Like most things in life, whether something costs a pretty penny is relative to your point of view and circumstances.
