Abbreviation of the Day: aka

When the police are looking for criminals they often put up wanted posters in the post office. The wanted posters have the names and nicknames of these criminals . You'll often see aka on wanted posters.
George, aka Bighead, is a bad dude. Be careful he is unarmed and obnoxious.

Abbreviation: aka

Today I have an abbreviation a.k.a. that you may have seen before.

These three letters, aka, are an abbreviation for ‘also known as‘ and are commonly used when someone has another name, is known by another name or even has a widely known and used nickname.

For example, most fans of Japanese baseball have heard of Shigeo Nagashima aka Mr. Baseball.

He is a living legend in Japan and because he has is also known by his popular nickname, Mr. Baseball, we can use aka.

I have seen also know as abbreviated to aka and also a.k.a.. Both forms are acceptable.
